Indian Community Centre Updates

This web page is created to keep the community updated with the latest progress of Indian community Centre.

ICC Construction Work Progress: June 2021

  1. Aluminum frame for front full height glazing installed.
  2. Auditorium: 90% Ceiling works, 95% of walls complete,  95% HVAC completed
  3. Plumbing, Electrical wire pulling works 85% completed
  4. Ground floor: internal walls 85% complete, paint preparation works progressing, small window frames installation and tiling works of toilet block in progress
  5. First Floor Foyer: Studwork for timber cladding 85% complete, ceiling framework , Air condition ducting works and stud wall behind reception in progress (>80% completed)
  6. Construction / fabrication of Water tanks behind pump room on Concrete pad 85% complete
  7. Light pole foundation works ongoing in carpark areas.
  8. Retaining wall at rear boundary complete, backfilling and levelling works in progress

  3. Pump room roofing completed
  4. Stormwater drain pits installed around the main building
  5. Installing clips for wooden cladding at reception full height wall completed
  6. Roofing to entrance canopy completed
  7. Aluminum window frames are installed to kitchen and side Wall
  8. Stud walls at first floor for back and side walls of Auditorium almost complete
  9. Air condition ducting works at ground and first floor started
  10. HVAC, plumbing Electrical wire pulling works in progress
  11. Internal stud wall ongoing at Ground & first floor, also stud wall for Auditorium staging and store
  12. External painting in progress

The construction of the ICC has been in progress.

January, 2021

The construction of the ICC has started in January 2021. On 14th January the Earthwork had started. At 6.30 am, the ISWA Management Committee, Consul General of India in Perth Madam Dantu Charandasi, a few life members and community members conducted a simple prayer before starting the journey.

December, 2020

On 5th December 2020, Premier of WA Mark McGowan announced $1.5M for the Indian Community Centre Project. Details here.

Hindi and Tamil included in WA school curriculum

On 21 January 2021, Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery announced the development of three new languages for WA schools.

  • ​Development of curriculum for Hindi, Korean and Tamil will commence in July
  • Syllabuses to be developed for Pre-primary to Year 12

EoY Family Welfare and Community Connect Lunch

ISWA organised an end of the year family welfare and community connect social networking/gathering on 19th of December 11 AM – 3 PM at John McGrath Pavilion (behind city of South Perth, Civic Centre).

It was a family day of fun with recreational activities for all age groups in the spirit of the festive season of Xmas and new year. Light lunch was served.

ISWA also acknowledged all our volunteers and presented certificate of appreciation.

Women’s time Free breakfast Networking – 13 December 2020

A Women’s Time – Free Breakfast was organised to connect and network on 13 December 2020. It was a time for ladies to connect with new friends and share information with a cup of Masala Tea, Coffee & Breakfast. About 150 ladies joined the breakfast networking.

A range of talks and presentations on health, career, and current social issues such as domestic violence were presented by esteemed speakers. A workshop with Bollywood dance music brightened the day with ladies from all age groups having fun dancing to the beats.

Diwali Mela 2020

Diwali Mela, the Festival of India is one of the biggest multicultural events in Western Australia. This year with over 25,000 visitors were at Claremont Showground on 7th & 8th November 2020 from 3.00 pm to 9:30 pm to enjoy this wonderful event.

Hon. Mark McGowan, Premier of WA, Hon. Paul Papalia, Minister for Tourism; Racing and Gaming; Small Business; Defence Issues; Citizenship and Multicultural Interests, Hon. Sue M Ellery, Minister for Education and Training, Hon. Simone McGurk MLA, Minister for Child Protection; Women’s Interests; Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence; Community Services, Hon. Bill Johnston MLA, Minister for Mines and Petroleum; Energy; Industrial Relations, Mr Antonio (Tony) Krsticevic MLA, Shadow Minister for Community Services; Youth; Special Shadow Minister for Homelessness; Cost of Living; Housing; Shadow Minister Assisting the Leader in Citizenship & Multicultural Affairs (representing leader of opposition), Hon. Catherine (Kate) Esther Doust MLC, MS Dantu Charandasi, Consul General of India and members of the all political parties, and many other dignitaries joined the event. ISWA is thankful to all the guests who joined in the celebration. The event was highly appreciated by the community members.

There were a variety of food and market stalls, kids’ rides, art exhibition, Rangoli competition, Diya decorations for kids, heritage and language stalls, cultural performances throughout the evening and culminating in spectacular fireworks at 8:30 pm on each day.

The celebrations include cultural presentations by local artists, which will have performances by the members of the Indian community and the wider Western Australian community.

Taste Of India – A Cooking Show By ISWA Women’s Wing is an initiative is to showcase a variety of cuisines from India.

Every Sunday, 10 am to 11am, an Indian cuisine will be prepared by a budding chef from the community – and will be streamed live through the Facebook page of ISWA.

The recorded show of Season 1 is now available from the YouTube channel of ISWA.
