Diwali Mela 2021 – Festival of India

Diwali Mela 2021 – Festival of India, the biggest multicultural festival of Indian diaspora in WA on 6th and 7th November 2021 at the Claremont Showground.

  1. As communicated in my previous email (below), this year Diwali Mela will have ticketed entry to ensure controlled crowd at the venue. The tickets are now available at a nominal price of $5.49 (includes 49c ticket processing fees) per person, per day of the event.   2. Please note that some complimentary tickets will be provided to ISWA members (life members, corporate members, honorary members, and association members). Separate communications will be sent out on this.

Indian Society of Western Australia celebrated Holi , The Festival of Colours on Sunday 28th March 2021 from 11 am to 5 pm at Langley Park, Perth.
It was Smoke-free & alcohol-free family event to enjoy

More than 6000 people joined the festival of Colours with friends and family. There were varieties of food options ,Games & Free Prizes, Rides & Water Slides.

ISWA Naari 2021

In celebration of International Women’s Day, ISWA’s Women’s Wing celebrated “Naari 2021” on Sunday, 7th March 2021 from 11 am to 5 pm. The event was held in Perth Convention Centre.

Naari 2021 – an all-inclusive approach to women’s welfare- including health, wellbeing, and career guidance and also about community, family and innovation to support those in our community making a real difference with multicultural integration. More 1800 people joined the event.

There was mesmerizing cultural performances showcasing multicultural dance and music; Food stalls, Scintillating Bollywood music and DJ with an open dance floor

There were more than 40 market stalls run by women entrepreneurs! We congratulate ISWA Women’s Wing for the great initiative to encourage women giving them the platform.

ISWA Mentorship Program GO LIVE Free Online Event

The much anticipated #Mentorship program of ISWA, targetting the college and university students of Indian origin in WA, GONE LIVE on SUNDAY, MARCH 21, 2021 AT 7 PM! This is the first Mentorship program ever in WA dedicated to Indian origin students, with primary focus on International students of Indian origin.

The Vision is to identify potentials in students, develop, connect with the community and the industry, and get the students ready for their job and life in Australia. This will be the Pilot Phase with maximum 50 mentees only, selected by our Mentorship Program team. The selection process will be explained during this online event, and the actual selection will happen during and after the event.

There is an International panel of expert behind the initiative, ably led by Mr Partha Dev (mentoring@iswa-perth.org) from ISWA on the ground, assisted by Student Leaders of ISWA Student Wing.

Women’s Health Breakfast

ISWA Health wing & AIMA organised a community health education seminar for increasing awareness of topics important to women’s health. This event was held on 14th March Sunday from 8am to 11.30 am ISWA Centre for Arts & Culture, 58 Burrendah Boulevard, Willetton and was free for all.

Student Connect -2

The Student Wing of Indian Society of Western Australia (ISWA) organised a Free lunch and networking meet-up for all students of Indian origin in WA across all universities and colleges on 13th March 2021. The event was held at The University of Western Australia. About 120 students from different Universities and institutes joined the event.

Mr Tayyeb Shah Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global Partnerships), Global Engagement Office and Professor Anu Rammohan Associate Dean, International, Global Engagement Office, UWA were also present in the event.

On 15th August, 2020, Hon Minister Paul Papalia presented a check of $188,000 to ISWA for extending the support to Indian students during COVID19 time.

During this event the procedures to access the student grant was explained to students seeking help from this relief fund and registration was initiated. Grocery vouchers were also distributed.

Launching DV Awareness Booklet – “Respectful Relationships and Understanding Family Violence”

ISWA Women’s Wing has launched the Domestic Violence awareness booklet – “Respectful Relationships and Understanding Family Violence” – during the Women’s Breakfast event in December 2020.

This is supported by ISHAR Multicultural, United in Diversity WA, City of Canning, and Kaleidoscope and compiled with materials sourced from all four.

This is a great milestone for ISWA Women’s Wing and this booklet will now be distributed for free – hard copy and soft copy – through all our channels and events.

We acknowledge Office of Multicultural Interest for their continued support in these initiatives.
